What's The Best Role To Have At A Wedding?

This is something I debated over the weekend while, naturally, at a wedding. Take out the option that you are in the wedding. Let’s just talk about the roles you have at other people’s weddings. I’ll say there are the following: best man/maid of honor, groomsman/bridesmaid, significant other is in the wedding, usher and neither you nor your significant other is in the wedding.

So with those options in mind, what’s the best role to have at a wedding? I’ll go with the following:

1. Groomsman/bridesmaid
2. Best man/maid of honor
3. Significant other is in the wedding
4. Neither is in the wedding
5. Usher

Let’s start with the bottom here. Being an usher stinks. Call me crazy but I hate having to seat people. You have to stand there at the door, greet people and then have the same conversation over and over again. Oh, not to mention, you’re going to have the co-worker of the brides mother who demands to sit close to the front. Just sit your own ass down. Being an usher is absolutely terrible.

Now, let’s get into the rest. I’m a big rehearsal night fan. Rehearsal dinner can actually be more fun than the wedding. It’s obviously not as many people there, so you’re hanging out with those you tend to be the closest with at the wedding. You’re typically in the same group of friends as the other groomsmen/bridesmaids. You typically end up at a great bar that night. Big fan of it. That’s why I’m even giving the significant other is in the wedding, you’re not over the neither is in the wedding. You typically know everyone there too, but let’s say it’s the first time meeting people in the wedding party/dates with the wedding party. You get the meeting over with that night and makes sitting at the table the next day easier. Throw in the fact you don’t have to give a speech. You get all the benefits of being in the wedding without having to do anything? Groomsman/bridesmaid is absolutely the best spot to be.

So I ask you. What’s the best role to have at a wedding? Let’s face it, everyone reading this is going to a million weddings in their 20s.
